Perth Scorchers won their first encounter against Hobart Hurricanes by 6 wickets. Bowling first, Heather Graham bowled a lethal spell taking three scalps to restrict Hurricanes at 143. Chasing the target, Elyse Villani came to all guns blazing with her 58 run knock. Lauren Ebsary and Chloe Piparo scored a match-winning partnership to ensure a comfortable victory for Scorchers. They will hope to continue the momentum ahead in the tournament.

Sydney Sixers did not get a good start to the season losing to Melbourne Stars by 7 wickets in their first match. Batting first, Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy were in their top form scoring 58 and 70 respectively to give a brilliant start to their team but middle order could not capitalize on it leading to a total of 165 runs.
