South Africa vs Sri Lanka, 5th ODI

Sri Lanka tour of South Africa, 2019

Newlands, Cape Town

Mar 16, 01:00 PM LOCAL

Pitch Profile & Stats

Newlands is one of the few grounds in South Africa that assists spin bowlers borne out by the fact that many of South African spinners have come from the Western Cape. The pitch is also very conducive to results with a small percentage of Tests played ending up as drawn.

Newlands is also favored with a Mediterranean winter rainfall climate allowing for perfect weather to watch and play cricket in.

This pitch is very good for the batting, high scoring match for both teams. Spinners get more supports.

Match Overview

Team South Africa is completely dominating Sri Lanka winning all four ODI matches. In the last match, Batting first Sri Lanka could only bat 39 overs and gave a target of 190 with help of an outstanding knock from Isuru Udana who scored 78 runs in 57 balls down the order for his team. Anrich Nortje starred for the hosts taking three wicket-haul while Andile Phehlukwayo took two scalps.

Chasing the target, Quinton De Kock continued his form scoring another 51 run knock and was supported by other batsmen to easily chase the target. Dhananjaya De Silva was brilliant with the ball taking three scalps in losing cause for his team.

The same old story repeated at the St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth and South Africa emerged victorious yet again in the 4th ODI to go 4-0 up in the 5 match series. Now, the action moves to Cape Town for the 5th and final ODI which will be played as a day-night game

Fantasy Tips

Wicket-Keeper

  • Quinton de Kock should be a no-brainer for your fantasy squads. The explosive left-hander leads the pack with 347 runs at an average of 86 and similarly, has also notched an incredible tally of 50 boundaries this series capped off with a strike rate of 113.

Batsmen

  • Faf du Plessis has been very consistent in the limited overs format this year. The South African skipper has scored 403 runs in his last nine ODIs with three 50s and a century to his name.
  • Oshada Fernando has been one of the few bright sparks with the bat this tour for the visitors. The 26-year old is currently the second highest run-getter for Sri Lanka this series with 105 runs and a career-best score of 49.
  • Aiden Markram played a useful knock of 29 runs in Port Elizabeth and strung along a key partnership with Quinton de Kock. Markram will look to make amends and finish the summer with some runs under his belt ahead of the ICC World Cup.
  • Upul Tharanga may not be the most appealing option but with Sri Lanka missing some of their big-hitters, the onus of providing a good start will fall on the veteran left-hander.
  • Tharanga happens to have fond memories of Newlands as he scored a century the last time around.

All-Rounders

  • JP Duminy made a successful return to international cricket in the fourth ODI after a long lay-off due to injury. The former South African captain chipped in with an unbeaten 31 along with an effective spell of 1/21 with the ball.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva proved to be the surprise package in the last game as he picked up three wickets of the Proteas top-order. De Silva will look to step up his performances with the bat and put together a strong all-round performance in the fifth ODI to help his team avoid another ODI clean sweep this year.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo will be the third all-rounder.

Bowlers

  • Anrich Nortje has made a lasting impression in his maiden international series. The 25 year old has taken six wickets in just the three outings thus far and another impressive showing in the final ODI should seal his place in the South African World Cup squad.
  • suru Udana was the star of yet another dismal Sri Lankan batting display in the fourth ODI. Udana smashed his way to a stunning knock of 78 off just 57 balls and furthermore, launched seven boundaries and four sixes.

Players to Watch out

Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Anrich Nortje and Aiden Markram are must-haves for this contest. With Dhananjaya de Silva being another point giving an option, your fantasy team is mostly set.
