Pitch Profile & Stats

When the pitches were uncovered and unattended to, it used to help the fast bowlers. However, since India started playing the spin quartet of Bishan Singh Bedi, BS Chandrasekar, S Venkatraghavan and EAS Prasanna, the wickets were made spin-friendly. Taking a look at the stats gives you a clear indication as to what type of bowlers hold the aces on the Chepauk wicket.

Match Overview

Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings had a dream run in IPL 2018 and have come with a similar squad this year too with very few changes. They, however, received a huge setback as their key pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the season due to injury. They will heavily rely on their strong batting attack to cover the weakness in their bowling department.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have failed to conquer the trophy yet in the history of IPL but always begin the tournament as fan favourites. This year too, They have quite a strong squad containing power hitters in form of Ab De Villiers, Shimron Hetmyer led by Mr. Consistent Virat Kohli. They will miss the services of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis for initial part of season. Fantasy Tips

  • MS Dhoni, Chennai’s adopted son, will take guard once again in front of the raucous crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He is one of the most successful cricketers in the competition, and will be a key figure for CSK this season.

  • Faf Du Plessis, the South African skipper, comes into the IPL on the back of an extremely successful series against Sri Lanka.
  • The 34-year-old is likely to open the batting alongside Shane Watson, and his contribution at the top of the order will be vital to their campaign this season.
  • Virat Kohli, the highest run-scorer for RCB in the tournament, will be the lynchpin of their batting order once again. The India skipper will be desperate to end his team’s trophy drought in the league this season.
  • AB de Villiers might have retired from international cricket, but remains one of the most destructive batsmen in the world today. He has notched up scores of 33, 47*, 45* and 52* in his last four T20 innings.
  • Shimron Hetymer has been one of the most consistent players over the last few months, and has made a name for himself in limited overs cricket. He recently notched up an unbeaten century against England in Bridgetown.

  • Ravindra Jadeja, who was out of India’s white-ball squad for quite a while, has now made an inspired comeback into the ODI set-up. He will be motivated to make this IPL count, as his World Cup hopes hinge on his showing here.
  • Kedar Jadhav played a riveting knock for CSK in the first match of the 2018 edition, taking them to a stunning last-ball victory. However, he got injured in that very game, which ruled him out of the rest of the season. This time, he will want to grab the opportunity with both hands.
  • Colin de Grandhomme is handy with both bat and ball, and could play a crucial role in the death overs of both innings.

  • Imran Tahir, one of the most experienced bowlers in the shortest format of the game, will be an important player for CSK, particularly on the spin-friendly pitch in Chepauk. He has a terrific bowling average of 15.04 in T20I cricket.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal, with 154 T20 wickets, is a smart bowler and one of the foremost spinners in the world right now. He had an average series against Australia and will want to get back to his best in the IPL. The track in Chennai is likely to assist him on Saturday.
  • Tim Southee is an effective new-ball bowler, and RCB will look to him to get the early breakthroughs and stop CSK’s destructive top order from going on a rampage.
