New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, 1st ODI

Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand, 2018-19

Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui

Jan 03, 02:00 PM LOCAL

Match Overview

Every ODI matches from now onwards will be the preparation for the WORLD CUP 2019. The first ODI of the year features third-ranked New Zealand hosting eighth-ranked Sri Lankan side. NZ picked up a 1-0 win in the Test series and now a three-match ODI series awaits us.

New Zealand’s coach Gary Stead clarified that they are using these home games to fill up the remaining gaps in their WC squad. The home side has recalled Jimmy Neesham and Doug Bracewell, seaming all-rounders, for the ODIs. They are also trialing Tim Seifert as the backup wicketkeeper. With the rest of the cast remaining same, New Zealand is still a strong side.

Sri Lanka has not been prolific in the ODIs and has received plenty of setbacks. They were defeated in the home series by England as well and they will seek a happy start to 2019. SL has a new ODI captain in Lasith Malinga. With positive intent, the Asian side can spring a surprise or two.
