Match Overview

Windies defeating England in the Test series was a shocker but if they can replicate it in the ODI series, it will be a mega-shocker. Let’s put it this way – England is the overwhelming favorite to win the World Cup and Windies qualified for the World Cup thanks to a bad umpiring decision. Yet after the performance in the Tests, Windies has a reason to be confident.

England will be testing the options before it announces its World Cup squad. Pace bowlers will be rotated to check the bench strength while the batting looks set. They are currently the number one team in the world and will want to seal the series 5-0. Joe Root has a full-strength squad at his disposal.

Windies look determined in Test cricket and natural in T20I cricket but they are struggling in the ODIs. Against India, they were competitive in the first three ODIs. Next two matches were surrendered. The return of Chris Gayle will boost their confidence. Still, Windies will have to be at their best to defeat this English team.

Match Overview

The second ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh followed the script of the first match. Bangladesh batted first both the times and result has remained the same – eight-wicket loss. This is the last match of the series. With the World Cup nearing, none of the teams will be taking this dead rubber lightly.

Bangladesh is yet to sort their top-order problem. Tamil Iqbal and Liton Das had another failure. The duo needs to be productive. Middle-order did deliver runs but none of the settled batsmen went on to make to a solid score. Mohammad Mithun scored his second fifty of the series. The bowling remained lacklustre as NZ batsmen chased down 227 runs sensibly.

Martin Guptill’s sterling form will please NZ selectors. He has notched up hundreds in both the matches and will be seeking a hattrick here. Munro, who replaces Williamson for this match, will want to make a mark. The bowling lineup has performed incredibly. All six bowlers picked up a wicket in the second ODI.

Match Overview

The White Ferns stepped into action after losing the ODI series to India. India had another bad day at Eden Park and they lost the 2nd T20 match as well. The White Ferns would be pleased after winning the T20 series in Auckland with a match remaining.

India didn’t show the dominance that they had shown in ODI format and lost the T20 without putting efforts. The third match of the three-match T20 series is scheduled to be played at Seddon Park in Hamilton. India is playing this game only to avoid a whitewash and for pride.

Match Overview

First T20I was won comprehensively by the New Zealand team but the Indian side displayed great resolve in reversing the treatment. Rohit Sharma trusted the same side that had succumbed to the record loss and those men proved him right. Both the teams went unchanged in this encounter but the result was extremely different.

Krunal Pandya, whose spot was in danger after the first match took three quick wickets to break New Zealand’s back. Chahal and Pandya were expensive but Bhuvneshwar and Khaleel covered for them. India’s chase of 159 runs was spearheaded by Rohit Sharma who struck a magnificent 50 from 29 balls. Pant then finished the match for India. The visiting side will hope for a similar performance in the decider match of the series.

New Zealand’s top three batsmen had good starts but failed to kick on. Daryl Mitchell’s controversial dismissal pegged them back further. Colin de Grandhomme’s 50(28) and Ross Taylor’s 42 helped the Kiwis go past 150. The bowling attack was blunted by Rohit and Rishabh. The home team needed a stronger batting performance to challenge the Indians.

Squads

ind

Rohit Sharma (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Vijay Shankar, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, K Khaleel Ahmed, Kedar Jadhav, Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Siddarth Kaul, Mohammed Siraj

nz

Kane Williamson (c), Doug Bracewell, Colin de Grandhomme, Blair Tickner, Scott Kuggeleijn, Daryl Mitchell, Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert (wk), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor

Team News

ind

  • Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will be absent in this T20I series.
  • Rohit Sharma will lead the side.
  • The Indian think tank once again proved all predictions wrong as they played with an unchanged side. It won’t be a surprise if they opt to back the same team here.
  • The only possible logical change is Kedar Jadhav taking Dinesh Karthik’s place.
  • Rohit Sharma, the current highest run-getter in T20Is, shall open with Dhawan.
  • Pant and Shankar will occupy three and four. Shankar will bat at three if a wicket falls early. Otherwise, Pant shall take the third position.
  • MSD bat at five. Dinesh Karthik shall bat after him. India could try Kedar Jadhav in his place as well.
  • The remaining crew of Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed is likely to remain the same.

nz

  • NZ will be making at least one confirmed change.
